Burnley forward Matěj Vydra has undergone a successful groin hernia operation and is thinking about his future. This year the Czech national team will face an important play-off for the World Cup in Qatar. Will he make it?
In an interview with Deník Sport, the Czech forward talked about his injury, which has been bothering him since the national team meeting last November.
“Two weeks before Christmas, I asked the club to let me see the specialist who did my right groin just before my transfer to Burnley. Heconfirmed that I had the exact same injury on the other side and the best solution was to have surgery again,” Vydra told iSport.
“I was scheduled to have the surgery on January 7. It was postponed because of the covid. I had to have a PCR test, which is required by the hospital, and less than 24 hours before the surgery, it came back positive,” he said
The good news for coach Šilhavy, however, is that Vydra will be able to recover in time for the March World Cup clash in Qatar, in which the Czech team will make its first appearance on 24 March in Solna against home Sweden.
“But as far as the barrage is concerned, that is the main goal. I wanted to do everything as soon as possible to make the national team. I believe that the recovery will not take long and I will start playing in England soon. I hope that I will get a nomination for the national team then,” he modestly told Sport.
Before the surgery, Matej Vydra managed to play his 100th Premier League game, when he helped Burnley to a valuable point against Arsenal.
However, the former Baník Ostrava player is not doing too well as a goalscorer, scoring only one goal in 16 games this season, and his Burnley are currently in last place in the Premier League.
His contract at the English club expires at the end of this season. “ I can’t and I didn’t want to be unemployed and injured at the end of the season.”
