Martial is apparently done at Manchester United, his agent is publicly talking about leaving. How did Rangnick react to this?
The behaviour of football agents is often beyond the boundaries of what is acceptable and can sometimes harm their client. Something similar has now apparently happened to Anthony Martial’s agent. In fact, Philippe Lamboley let it be known in an interview with Sky Sports that the French striker wants to leave Manchester United.
“Anthony wishes to leave in January. He needs to play and that’s why he doesn’t want to stay at the club anymore. I will be in talks with the club’s management soon,” said the player’s agent, whose client may not be released by the Red Devils until 2025.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with that and the fans are counting on it happening sooner or later. The problem, however, is that no one at Old Trafford seems to know about this plan, not even the new coach Ralf Rangnick, who has also commented on the whole situation.
“Martial has not spoken to me or the management about leaving. But to be honest, I don’t even care what the agent says through the media. If a player wants to leave, he should go to the management or to me. I have never spoken about the future of my player through the media or with the agent,” the new United coach was clear about the situation.
Martial’s performances lately are really not good. On top of that, he has also suffered a knee injury, which has meant that he has played only 10 games this season, in which he has hit the Everton net once.
However, the situation at Old Trafford has changed and the 26-year-old striker could still last until the end of the season if the new coach doesn’t like him after all. However, his agent’s behaviour is very likely to frustrate his efforts and if he wishes to leave in January, there will be no question of…
Where will Martial go?
Most talk is about 3 clubs, two of which are based in France. However, according to Spanish daily Marca, the situation surrounding Martial is being closely watched by Barcelona, who could be interested in the technically well-equipped striker in January.
The 2017 Europa League winner is no doubt still an excellent footballer who seems to need a new challenge and, above all, confidence. After all, similarly to the case with Memphis Depay, he could meet him in Catalonia.
The other possibility is that Martial could follow in the footsteps of the Dutch striker, currently at Camp Nou, and move to Lyon, who nurtured him for big football and then sent him to Monaco for €5 million, where he shone so much that he caught the eye of Manchester United, who bought him for €60 million two years later (2015).
The third option, according to French daily L’Equipe, is a transfer to PSG, who would use Martial to plug the hole left by the possible departure of Kylian Mbappé, who is expected to join Real Madrid after the season.
