Anthony Martial has left Manchester United after six years on loan to Sevilla. But the French international could become a player of another Spanish club – Barcelona. Why did Martial decide to sign for Andalusia?
The 26-year-old Frenchman had a diverse range of suitors for his services. But he categorically refused to sign for another English club. Newcastle in particular were interested.
The player’s representatives were negotiating with clubs from other prestigious European leagues. Of course, the sporting aspect of the transfer was the primary factor in the negotiations, but the player’s salary requirements were also an important part.
“Barcelona were in talks with my agents in January, Juventus were very keen on my arrival,” Martial outlined the interest of the two European clubs. But he also ruled out any similar enthusiasm on his part.
The Lyon product has made a guest appearance at Sevilla a priority. “Here I have the chance to play in the starting line-up and play regularly as I want,” said the new member of Julen Lopetegui’s squad.
He has already made his debut for Sevilla, spending 76 minutes on the pitch in a 0:0 draw at Osasuna.
