Márquez on his way out of Honda? Team boss Alberto Puig makes shocking comments about MotoGP legend
Marc Márquez is not having a good season. He didn’t start the last Dutch Grand Prix at all as he was injured in the previous race weekend at Sachsenring. But Honda itself is in a very bad way at the moment, with the MotoGP legend understandably feeling unhappy with the team.

Fifteen points to his name, nineteenth in the riders’ championship – that’s exactly Márquez’s record in MotoGP this year. The 30-year-old Spaniard already had a bad season last year, when he only started 12 grand prix due to injury.
With 113 points, he eventually finished 13th in the riders’ championship, but this year has been one big disaster. And not just because he crashes a lot.
Anyway, at the recent German Grand Prix he crashed five times during the whole race weekend, once even very dangerously shooting down Johann Zarco.
Márquez simply pushes too hard, making him a danger to himself and other riders. But that’s because Honda simply and plainly doesn’t work. In anything. This is also exemplified by the miserable finishes of teammates Joan Miró (26th) and Iker Lecuona (28th).
As a result of his injury, not only did he not race at the Sachsenring, but he didn’t even start the last Dutch Grand Prix.
Moreover, it is no secret that he is unhappy at Honda Respol and will be addressing his future. However, only in the next few months.
Now is not the time…
“I can’t think about it now. You can’t decide things about your future when you’re in this state. During this month and a half I need to recover my body and my mental side,” Márquez said when asked by the aforementioned journalist Simon Patterson.
MotoGP now has a mandatory summer break on the schedule after eight races, so the next race is not until August 6. That will be the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Márquez thus needs to heal his broken rib 100% so that he can, in his words, return to full fitness at Silverstone. However, the star Spaniard has responded to previous rather shocking comments made about him by Honda Repsol boss Alberto Puig.
“We have a contract, but every man can do what he wants in life. And Honda is not a company that wants to have people who are not happy with being at Honda. We have a lot of respect for Marc and I want to believe that he will stay with us under contract,” said Puig, who was quoted by Motorsport.
Is a big transfer on the way? More information will be revealed in the summer, but the fact remains that Márquez is under contract with Honda until the end of the 2024 season.
