The second round of the French Open will offer a very interesting duel in which the Swiss Roger Federer will challenge the seven years younger Marin Cilic. How will the match play out and who will enjoy advancement?
Roger Federer hasn’t played much since last January. One of tennis’ greatest legends has only appeared at the Australian Open, Doha and Geneva. He had to miss the rest of the tournaments due to health problems.
In the first round at the French Open, the former world number one took on Denis Istomin. Federer was clearly better throughout the match and deservedly won 6::2, 6::4, 6::3. Not once did he lose his serve.
Marin Cilic is also one of the more experienced players on the ATP circuit. Although he is currently ranked 47th in the rankings, his career high is the third position from January 2018.
In the opening match of the second Grand Slam tournament of 2021, the thirty-two-year-old Croatian tennis player ran into Arthur Rinderknecht. Cilic defeated the home player by 7::6, 6::1 and 6::2.
So what to bet on? Roger Federer is the clear favourite for the match, although his game load is not too big. In the statistics of their mutual matches, Federer, the winner of the French Open in 2009, leads by 9-1.
However, Marin Cilic can be expected to be a skilled opponent and it will not be easy to turn his serve around. That’s why I recommend to bet on the fact that we will see at least 34 games in Thursday’s encounter.
