A few days ago, experienced defender Marcelo agreed to terminate his contract with Olympiakos Piraeus. However, the 34-year-old defender did not stay without a contract for long. The former Real Madrid player returns to his homeland, where he has agreed a contract with parent club Fluminense.
Brazilian defender Marcelo signed for Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus in the summer, where he headed after a 15-year stint at Real Madrid. The management of the Greek big club had high hopes for this collaboration, but unfortunately this engagement did not turn out as expected.
The experienced defender was struggling with health problems, overweight and poor physical condition. He only appeared in ten games for Olympiakos, scoring three goals.
The Greek giant is not having a good season. They are in third place in the league, and finished last in the Europa League group stage. Naturally, the club’s management is not happy with the club’s results and wants to address the situation.
And that means changes in the squad, which also affected Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, who headed to Huddersfield in England. The same fate befell the star Marcel, with whom Olympiakos agreed to end their cooperation.
The experienced Brazilian did not stay without a job for long either. He was courted by Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, where he would meet his friend Cristiano Ronaldo. But Marcelo decided to return to his native country.
The former Real Madrid defender has agreed a deal with Brazilian side Fluminense.
The five-time Champions League winner has agreed a contract with Fluminense until the end of 2024. Marcelo is returning to familiar surroundings as he is an offspring of the club.
