The MotoGP royal cubature had its tenth round of the season on Sunday 19 June, namely the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. Reigning World Champion Fabio Quartararo took the victory, breaking the impressive and long-standing streak of Marc Márquez.

For the first time since 2012, the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring was won by someone other than Marc Márquez.

He was unable to take part in the tenth race of the season due to a fourth operation on his injured arm. How long his recovery will take is a big question at the moment.

Márquez’s impressive streak was broken by reigning champion Quartararo, who dominated the German Grand Prix. The 23-year-old Yamaha rider overtook Francesco Bagnaia, who took pole position in Saturday’s qualifying, on the first lap of the race.

Quartararo, it must be added, was very lucky not to have received a penalty from the race directorate. The French rider was moving too slowly around the circuit on Saturday morning due to a loose visor. In addition, he returned to the track at a time when the pit lane exit was already closed.

It could have been a tight battle for the win, as Quartara was chasing second-placed Bagnaia. The Ducati factory rider crashed on lap four, specifically on the exit of turn one. The Italian rider thus failed to finish the race for the second time in a row, his fourth retirement this year.

Thanks to his crash, Johann Zarco moved into second place, but Quartararo had already built up a 1.2-second lead after four laps and remained alone at the front for the rest of the race.

At the finish, Quartararo had almost a five-second lead over second-placed Zarco on the Pramac. Needless to say, a 3.5-second gap was also created between second and third place, with Jack Miller, Bagnai’s teammate at the Sachsenring, taking the podium.

Fourth place went to Aleix Espargaro, fifth to Luca Marini, sixth to Jorge Martin, seventh to Brad Binder, eighth to Fabio Di Giannantonio, ninth to Miguel Oliveira and Enea Bastianini rounded out the elite ten. Seven riders did not finish the German Grand Prix!

As you can see in the above Twitter post, Quartararo has increased his lead at the top of the drivers’ championship and leads the world championship with ease.

In addition, he took the German crown from Spain’s Márquez, so the 2021 champion has had a very successful race weekend.
