Manchester woes, Tottenham sympathetic. Spurs beat Red Devils 2-0 at home

Manchester United failed to win their second round Premier League match, going down 0:2 to Tottenham. The home team started the match well, but gradually started to control the game and especially their chances were able to take advantage.

Anthony had the first chance of the match in the third minute, but the Brazilian speedster shot over from the edge of the box. The active entry of the guests continued with an attempt by Alejandro Garancho, but even the second South American did not challenge the Spurs’ defence.

In the 13th minute, Marcus Rashford got in front of the goalkeeper, but summer signing Guglielmo Vicario flashed an excellent save. The English playmaker fired again ten minutes later, this time with a header that went over the bar.

The home side responded in the 24th minute, but Dejan Kulusevski’s shot only found André Onana’s gloves. Six minutes later Pape Matar Sarr had a great chance, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper showed why United brought him on.

Spurs’ good run continued with a double chance in the 39th minute, Pedro Porro firing over the crossbar, the finish from an angle was knocked onto the bar by the Reds defence. The home side celebrated quickly after the change of sides, a centre from the right was cleared into the net by Sarr after some attractive football.

On the other side, Anthony could have equalised after two minutes, but his left-footed shot hit the bar. In the 57th minute, Casemiro was the highest in the air, but goalkeeper Vicario continued to work his magic.

On the other side, Heung Min Son came close to securing the game, but his shot was stopped by a third defender after he had rounded two defenders. In any case, Spurs played what they needed to, not letting the Red Devils do anything significant.

It wasn’t until the 80th minute that Casemiro fired, but only hit the centre of the goal. Three minutes later, it was all over when Ivan Perisic’s cross was knocked into his own net by Lisandro Martinez. After that, the game was all over and Tottenham won 2-0.
