Manchester United’s new coach? Carrick likely to stay on the bench for longer

Following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from the Manchester United bench, speculation immediately arose as to who would replace him. The temporary replacement is assistant Michael Carrick and it looks like he will get a longer spell.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s mission with the Red Devils lasted almost three years. From the initial euphoria came great resentment towards the end. Solskjaer tried to bring the ghost of Sir Alex Ferguson back to Manchester, which initially succeeded.

Last year he even won second place with Manchester City, and for a while he even challenged for the title. But the results and performances this season have fallen well short of expectations. This is despite the fact that the management brought in big signings in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Thus, it is not yet certain which coach will come to the Old Trafford bench. According to Goal, Michael Carrick is expected to take the coaching scepter for a longer period of time. The club legend and current assistant will become the head coach and is likely to remain on the bench until the end of the season.

Carrick’s tough job. He has a Champions League game against Villarreal, followed by games against Chelsea and Arsenal.
