Manchester United’s insane transfer policy has devastated the club in recent years. Why will the Red Devils be in trouble?
In fact, Manchester United have been overpaying many players since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure and then letting them go for much lower amounts. This transfer policy has been going on at Old Trafford for years and it has got the club into trouble that will be hard to get out of.

Manchester United and €1.8 billion
For more than 10 years, the Red Devils have been searching for the right coach who can lead the team conceptually like Sir Alex Ferguson. However, it is still not happening and now there is talk of the coach’s demise again. In this case, it concerns Erik ten Hag, who has failed to manage the star players at Old Trafford.
He may have maintained his honour by surviving a series of problems, but the results have not come. Moreover, the team has looked utterly resigned of late, losing one point after another. And that’s even with teams that they should be beating without any problems.
In addition, the transfer policy is absolutely devastating for the club, with Manchester United having spent around EUR 1.8 billion since Ferguson left, while the income from the players sold has reached around EUR 500 million. With financial fair play, the new owner Jim Ratcliffe is facing a real challenge.
Rashford on his way out?
This example perfectly explains the current situation at the club. The only difference with many of the reinforcements is that Rashford is an offspring of the club and any income will be a plus for the club’s coffers. But can Manchester United sell their winger?
I’m sure they can, but it will certainly be at an undervalue. According to ESPN, the management would sell the 26-year-old Englishman, but it would have to come with an offer in excess of 70 million euros. Considering that Rashford has only scored 8 goals in 40 games this season and assisted 5 more, it’s hard to believe. But it can happen.
However, it doesn’t make sense for the Red Devils to sell him for a lower price, as they would have to bring in a replacement for him anyway, and it probably wouldn’t be of the same quality. So the player becomes virtually unsellable, which is far from the only case at the club.
Another perfect example is Mason Mount. The English midfielder has only played 18 games this season as he has been plagued by injuries. However, even when he has played, it has been rather poor. Few have understood this move by Manchester United and unfortunately for the club itself, most of the critics are right.
Even the 25 year old midfielder is a write off according to many, it’s just that we are at the same problem as with Rashford. Mount cost the Red Devils €65 million, can you imagine a European club offering a similar amount? Quite possibly none of the Arab teams would go for it either.
There are many such cases in Manchester United and rebuilding the team might take a very long time. However, if it is done as it has been done so far, some major success is not in sight. Meanwhile, the club needs to buy new players, only for the sake of financial fair play they have to sell first, which will be hard to do with players with steadily declining form.
