Manchester United won their 30th Premier League home game, beating Everton 2-0 at home. The Red Devils had an overwhelming pressure especially in the first half, which culminated in the 35th minute when Scott McTominay made the decision.
The home side started actively and in the eighth minute they scored their first goal, but Marcus Rashford’s great chance was saved by Jordan Pickford. Everton tried their luck from the air but Amadou Onana’s header missed the target.
In the 13th minute, the visitors were saved by the bar after a shot from Antony, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s shot from the resulting rebound missed incomprehensibly. At the other end, Ellis Simms missed another chance, his right-footed shot narrowly missing the back post.
The game was entertaining, Antony didn’t convert two shootouts until the 25th minute. The first was saved by Jordan Pickford, followed by a slip tackle by Ben Godfrey. Everton’s defence held out until the 36th minute when Scott McTominay scored after a through pass from Jadon Sancho.
Everton defended the rest of the half and went into the box with a 1-0 lead. After the change of sides, the visitors came out more active and confident, but didn’t get a shot off in the first quarter of an hour.
It was not until the 65th minute that Alex Iwobi shot from the edge of the box, but the Reds’ defence knocked the ball away for a corner. On the other side, Pickford was again twice impressive, parrying a fierce header from Bruno Fernandes and trapping a Tyrell Malacia volley from the ensuing corner.
Seven minutes later, it was done. After a mistake by Seamus Coleman, substitute Anthony Martial had an easy job.
Manchester were enjoying the game at the end, but didn’t take any of their remaining chances. The three points moved them into third place for at least a couple of hours, three points ahead of fourth-placed Newcastle. Everton are in 16th place, a score above the relegation zone.
