Manchester United will be the last team in the English Premier League to open the season on Monday. Wolverhampton, one of the relegation candidates, will come to Old Trafford. What to expect from the game and what to bet on?

Manchester United go into the season with the aim of staying in the title race for as long as possible, although they are not the favourites. In the summer, they finally brought in a top striker, the midfield was reinforced by Mason Mount and in goal David de Gea was replaced by Andre Onan.

Wolves saw the departure of long-time mainstay Ruben Neves, with the Portuguese midfielder now kicking around in Saudi Arabia. Although they were primarily winning in the preparation, they played the biggest outsider in the competition Luton without any goals.

Manchester United’s key figures

Marcus Rashford is having the season of his life, the English striker was the best player in the league during the winter months. Casemiro runs the defence from the number six position, the Brazilian midfielder has caught on brilliantly after his transfer from Real Madrid.

Wolves key figures

Wolves have a bit of a disintegration in the core of the team, which will put more responsibility on goalkeeper José Sá. Midfielder Matheus Nunes made a great catch in the spring part of last season, and will be even more important this season after Neves’ departure.

What to expect and what to bet on?

The home side have played several top teams in their long preparation, beating Arsenal, then falling to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. They have fared better against weaker opponents on paper, losing only to Wrexham in five games, and with a rejuvenated squad.

Wolves’ offense struggled last season, with 31 shots they had the worst offense in the league. Counting the end of last season and the start of this season more than once they have only managed to score in two of their last ten games.

Considering last year’s performances of Rashford and Casemiro, Manchester United’s generally productive attack and considering Wolves’ woeful offensive performance, which also lacks Neves and Traore, I think Manchester United will win and no more than four goals will fall.
