Manchester United returns to the English turf on Wednesday. They will take on Burnley without several of their mainstays who are recovering from the World Cup in Qatar. What to expect from the Carabao Cup match and what to bet on?
Manchester United can’t be happy with their season so far, they have only progressed from second place in the Europa League group, which is why they will face Barcelona in the play-offs, while they are fifth in the Premier League. In addition, it lost both of its two preliminary matches in December.
Burnley, on the other hand, returned after the November break in the same style in which they finished the first part of the season. The two wins made Burnley comfortable eight points ahead of first in the table for the play-off places.
Manchester United’s key figures
The Red Devils will rely on Bruno Fernandes again in the spring, the Portuguese midfielder has had a good tournament from an individual point of view. Just like Marcus Rashford, who scored three times in Qatar, he has a record of 8+3 for the Manchester side this season.
Burnley’s key figures
Benson winger Manuel Hedilazio is thriving on the away side, the Belgian reinforcement from Antwerp boasts a record of 8+3. Long-time mainstay and central midfielder Josh Brownhill has scored five times and assisted five times.
Although the Red Devils’ performances have been far from ideal, at least the offense has gotten into its stride in recent weeks. Manchester United have scored more than once in three of their last four games, all without Cristiano Ronaldo.
Burnley are even better. It clearly has the best attack in the Championship with 46 shots (Sheffield United, the second best scorers, have scored 38 goals). Moreover, the Clarets have scored at least twice in six of their last seven games.
Considering Burnley’s form, I expect an even contest that will end up narrowly in favour of the favourite. Nevertheless, I don’t write off the visitors and I recommend betting on Burnley at a handicap of +1.5. In this case, you will win if the underdog wins, goes to extra time or loses by one goal at most.
