The Manchester United and Brazil national team star has been dropped from the national team. This is due to the accusations made against Antony by his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin. However, the Brazilian has spoken out against the accusations and provided a statement via his Instagram account.
There is another case against Manchester United, or rather its star footballer. Not long ago the English outfit had to deal with a case linked to Mason Greenwood, now Antony is accused of domestic violence.
As previously reported by the UK’s Daily Mail, the 23-year-old winger’s ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallino has accused him of assault.
This was while she was pregnant. Based on the information of the aforementioned newspaper, Antony threatened his ex-girlfriend to throw her out of a moving car. In addition, he also allegedly cut her finger with a glass and damaged her breast implant.
The case is currently in the hands of the police, who are understandably not releasing any details as part of their investigation. However, the player himself has also commented on the matter. Antony claims that all allegations are false.
It should be added, as a result of these events, Antony has been dropped from the national team squad. The Manchester United winger will thus miss the matches against Bolivia and Peru.
I would never resort to physical violence, writes Antony
“Out of respect for my fans, friends and family, I feel obliged to speak out publicly about the false allegations I have been the victim of. I have dealt with this matter seriously and respectfully from the beginning, providing a proper explanation to the police authority,” Antony wrote in a story on his Instagram account.
Antony also writes that evidence of his innocence has already been presented and more will follow. The Manchester United star also admits that his relationship with his ex-girlfriend was tumultuous and they often resorted to verbal altercations.
However, he says he would never practice physical violence. “I believe the ongoing police investigation will reveal the truth about my innocence,” he concluded.
