Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s days at Manchester United appear to be numbered. According to the English media, one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League is set to bring in Brendan Rodgers from Leicester.
If it was just speculation up to this point, Brendan Rodgers has been a big help. According to the Sun, Rodgers is looking for a new family home in the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge areas of Cheshire.
Both locations are a 25-minute drive from Old Trafford and these houses have been used by players or members of the Manchester United management team in the past.
This should bring Rodgers one step closer to an engagement with the Red Devils. Although the management outwardly shows that they still have confidence in Solskjaer, it is not infinite. And the Northern Irish coach should be the first choice.
Rodgers is currently doing very well with Leicester United. Although he cannot match the giants in terms of budget or breadth of squad, he can keep up. The last two seasons the Foxes have spent almost the entire season in the top four, but fell to 5th place at the last minute.
According to several English media outlets, the question is not whether Rodgers will replace Solskjaer, but when that will happen. Some media are predicting that the Norwegian coach will pack his bags before Christmas, others are guessing that Rodgers will take the helm in the New Year.
Manchester United’s season is certainly not going to plan so far. The title attack has been complicated right from the start of the competition, Solskjaer’s charges are in sixth place, nine points behind leaders Chelsea. And if Cristiano Ronaldo had not intervened in the Champions League three times in a row in the last minutes, United would be in last place in the group.
On top of that, the EFL Cup exit to West Ham and, most importantly, the dull performance of the entire team, which lacks any strategy and game system.
If indeed Rodgers sits on the coaching bench at Old Trafford, he will have his work cut out for him. However, he has a huge shooting arsenal in the form of a quality squad.
