Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of a new head coach. As the speculations from the last few days, the new manager of the famous English club is the current coach of Sporting Lisbon Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils have definitely confirmed it on their official website.
- Manchester United on Friday afternoon officially announced the new coach
- Ruben Amorim, Sporting Lisbon’s current coach, moves to Old Trafford
- The Portuguese manager has signed a contract with the English outfit until June 2027
He’s finally gone, Red Devils fans could tell themselves, after the club’s management ran out of patience with the current coach, who is originally from the Netherlands. Erik ten Hag has led Manchester United since July 2022, hitting the bench for 128 games.
During that time, ten Hag recorded two successes with the currently 14th Premier League side, winning the English League Cup in 2022/23 and the FA Cup winner’s trophy the following season. But that was it.
United fans then criticized the Dutch coach mainly for his gameplay, behaviour towards the players and also complained about the constant problems in the cabin. There was also talk that some players did not want to work under Ten Hagem at all.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was also clear about his tenure. In his opinion, Ten Hag had disintegrated the club and the cabin. “I don’t think Manchester United are in a better position now than they were when Erik ten Hag arrived. And that’s the most important thing. You want to see improvement, but I don’t think there has been any. If anything has happened, it’s more of a deterioration,” Tribal Football quoted the England legend as saying.
In any case, after the recent loss to West Ham, the club’s management ran out of patience and parted ways with the current manager. Ten Haga was then replaced in this position for a while by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who immediately celebrated a 5-2 win over Leicester in the EFL Cup.
Manchester United confirmed the arrival of a new coach
It was no secret, however, that Manchester United were looking for a new general manager. And he has finally found one in Sporting Lisbon, as was speculated earlier. Ruben Amorim, a very ambitious and promising coach, is moving to the Premier League club.
The thirty-nine year old Lisbon native has won two championships and the Portuguese League Cup twice with Sporting. In addition, he also won the local Super Cup. Needless to say, before he took the helm, the Portuguese big club waited almost 20 years for the title.
Manchester United on its official website specifies that Amorim will join the club on Monday, November 11. He has signed a contract until June 2027, with an option for another year.
“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. He has won numerous awards as a player and coach, including winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga twice with Sporting CP,” the Red Devils wrote on their official website.
