Manchester United also managed their second game against Nottingham Forest and will advance to the final of the English League Cup, where they will be joined by Newcastle, who beat Southampton twice in the semi-final. How much chance do the Magpies have in February’s final?
Manchester United’s busy schedule
While Newcastle will be concentrating only on the Premier League, apart from this final on 26 February, due to which their league game against Brighton, which was to be played a day earlier, was postponed, Manchester United are still fighting on all fronts.
Newcastle will thus face West Ham, Bournemouth and Liverpool in the final. After they welcome Jürgen Klopp’s charges they will have 8 days to prepare.
Manchester United will also have three league games, namely against Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Leicester. However, before the League Cup final, they will still play two matches with Barcelona in the Europa League, while the fans can look forward to the rematch three days before the aforementioned duel with Newcastle.
Euphoria
There was no doubt that Newcastle would go up with the new owners. Even in terms of the value of the squad, Newcastle is behind the top six in England and it can be assumed that next season it will be on its heels in this statistic, maybe even surpassing someone.
However, coach Eddie Howe is taking one step at a time and slowly building his dream team as he focuses on young talents with whom he wants to conquer England and then Europe.
What few expected, however, is that we will be talking about Newcastle as a big favourite to finish in the top 4. They currently share third place with Manchester United, with whom they have the same points but a better record.
So it seems that these two teams will be fighting on multiple fronts. The first match at Old Trafford ended in a goalless draw.
However, it is important to remember that the Magpies are riding a wave of euphoria that should not be underestimated! Let’s remember Leicester’s ride. This is where the big weapon could lie. However, Manchester United are a team full of star players and in many cases very experienced players.
The club’s historic success
While Newcastle have won the Premier League 4 times (last 1926/27) and even the FA Cup 6 times (last 1954/55). They have also dominated the Championship 4 times, most recently in 2017, and have managed to stay among England’s elite ever since.
However, the English League Cup has never been won by the Magpies and it would be such a great start to a new era that looks very rosy for the whole city!
