Manchester City defended their Premier League title and have been celebrating since Sunday. As part of the celebrations, more and more news, photos and videos are of course leaked, some of them really entertaining the fans. The latest to shine was Jack Grealish.
It was one of the biggest transfers of last summer. Jack Grealish, who has long been wanted by the best clubs in the Premier League and not just the Premier League, has been giving outstanding performances in an Aston Villa jersey. This is why the Villans were able to ask for big money for his transfer.
Manchester City, who acquired him, did not hesitate to pay more than 110 million euros for him. The English footballer was expected to keep his productivity and creativity and be one of the driving forces of his new club in the quest for trophies, especially in the Champions League.
But Grealish’s numbers are worse than they used to be at Aston Villa. He has less minutes as well. In important games, he hasn’t even come on. It took him a while to acclimatise. He became a target for criticism. Nevertheless, he can still enjoy the championship celebrations.
And the criticism? He doesn’t deserve it. Grealish gave a very good performance for someone who was just getting used to the team. He has brought completely new elements to Manchester City’s game that have reinvigorated the team. Pep Guardiola is aware of this and can make great use of Grealish in specific situations and games.
After all, Grealish has earned an above-average rating from WhoScored for the entire season in all competitions, with an average grade higher than 7. And he can be even better.
During the celebrations, however, he joked about why Guardiola brought him to Manchester City in the first place. In fact, defender Kyle Walker was asked who would beat him in a 1vs1. According to the reactions, neither Neymar nor Mbappé can do it.
Moreover, the microphone was stolen by Grealish, whose words amused even the Citizens coach himself. “I did it when I was at Aston Villa. That’ s why Pep signed me,” said the English footballer.
Can Grealish be one of the key parts of the squad next season?
