Manchester City will enter the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday. After knocking out Sporting Lisbon, the English champion will face a double-header with Spanish champion Atletico Madrid. What to expect from the opening game?
Manchester City have been going through the competition smoothly so far, first advancing from the first place of their group, then knocking out Sporting Lisbon after 5: 0 and 0: 0 results. It is also doing well in the Premier League, where it is first, a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.
Atletico have had a much tougher road. They only secured promotion from the group in the last round of the group stage, and were among the top eight teams after a 2-1 aggregate win over Manchester United. They are third in La Liga.
Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is in great form, through all competitions he has had a hand in twenty goals for the Citizens (12+8). Raheem Sterling is in even better form, scoring fourteen goals and assisting seven times.
Joao Felix is getting into decent form, the Portuguese striker scored ten times and assisted on six goals, scoring two goals at the weekend. Argentina’s Angel Correa scored twelve goals and assisted seven times.
Manchester rely on a goal scoring attack, scoring more than one goal in nine of their last twelve games.
However, nothing easy awaits Pep Guardiola’s charges against Atletico, the Colchoneros have only scored four goals in their last eight games.
Considering the form of the Citizens’ defensive unit, I think they will manage to win the match, while conceding less than five goals.
