Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed at a press conference that he has dropped England international Kalvin Phillips, who returned to the squad overweight after the World Cup in Qatar. The player will reportedly not play until he loses weight.
Kalvin Phillips only played 40 minutes at the World Cup in Qatar, but still took full advantage of the leave offered before joining back up with Manchester City. Pep Guardiola, however, was not happy with his return.
The England international returned overweight and the team manager didn’t like that. He refused to let Phillips train with his teammates. He also won’t let him play competitive matches until he loses weight.
At a press conference afterwards, Guardiola added: ” When he is fit enough, he will play. Because we really need him a lot.”
Manchester City knocked Liverpool 3-2 out of the League Cup before Christmas. Manchester City beat Manchester City 2-2, 2-2. In the next two weeks, he has games against Leeds, Everton, Chelsea and Southampton.
The schedule is really demanding and every loss of a player is of course unpleasant for the coach. Especially when it’s a case that Manchester certainly didn’t count on.
So Phillips is now training individually and is working to rejoin his teammates soon.
The midfielder has only played in one league game so far this season. He hasn’t played most of the season due to injury.
