Manchester City defeated FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night and deservedly reached the Champions League quarter-finals. The Manchester giants are the first English club to win ten consecutive matches in the Champions League.
Manchester City became the first English club in history to set a new record by winning ten consecutive matches in the Champions League. The Citizens started this streak last season when they first knocked out Real Madrid and beat Inter in the final.
They then continued that record in the regular season group stage of the current season. The group stage was completely dominated by Pep Guardiola’s charges. Firstly, they beat CZ Belgrade 3-1 in the first round, and also beat RB Leipzig and Young Boys by the same score.
In the fourth round Manchester City won without conceding a goal, this time beating Young Boys 3:0. The Citizens managed to win the fifth round at home against Leipzig, although they had to turn the match from 0:2 to 3:2.
The famous English club clearly dominated the group stage, scoring a full 18 points and 18 goals in six matches.
Manchester City set a new record against Copenhagen
The Citizens recorded their ninth and jubilee tenth victory in the Champions League eighth-finals by beating FC Copenhagen twice. As we write above, Manchester City is therefore the first English club to win ten consecutive matches in the most prestigious competition in the world.
Only two teams have done it before. Real Madrid in 2015, and Bayern Munich managed this feat twice, namely in 2013 and 2020.
The invincibility of Guardiola’s team on the territory of the European Cup has already extended to 22 matches. In addition, the Citizens have extended their unbeaten streak at the Etihad Stadium to 30 matches already.
The only other team that has ever managed to reach the record of 30 matches without a loss is Barcelona, which has even registered a 38-match unbeaten streak.
