Manchester City on top! Can any English club do it again?
A few years ago, Manchester City fans would have only dreamed of such a year. And, in fact, football fans of any club. For what coach Pep Guardiola and his charges managed to do last season was the first time in the history of English football.
A few years ago, Manchester City fans would have dreamed of a year like this. And, in fact, football fans of any club. For what coach Pep Guardiola and his charges managed to do last season is the first time in the history of English football.
In July 2016, coach Guardiola took over the English club owned by Sheikh Mansour and Manchester City slowly but surely started to flourish. The coach’s task was clear. To lead the Citizens to their dream Champions League victory.
This and much more was achieved by the famous coach in an exceptional 2022/23 season, which was capped off yesterday by winning their fifth trophy. Guardiola not only managed to win the famous treble for winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
As an added bonus, the Citizens managed to win the UEFA Super Cup. Now, they have added the aforementioned fifth trophy by managing to beat Fluminense in the Club World Cup final 4-0.
Guardiola himself did not have to go far for words of praise after a glorious year and embarked on a rather comprehensive review.
“I’m really happy for the many people at the club, for the many years. When I came to Manchester, I never thought we could do what we have done now,” the Manchester City coach expressed at the press conference after the Club World Cup final.
“The incredible amount of titles we’ve won, we could now top that by winning the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. What we have done this year has been incredible. The fight for all the titles, the level and progressive consistency of our play has been incredible. I am proud of the players, all the staff and the facilities at the club,” he added.
Coach Pep Guardiola also noted that this is the closing of a chapter. He is under contract at the club until the summer of 2025. The question is how many titles he can add to his current collection. A club packed with stars like Haaland, Grealish, Doku, Álvarez and others led by a famous coach will surely do their best for that this season.
