The summer transfer period is in full swing and huge sums are flying around the market again. Which teams are spending the most and how do they compare in terms of income and expenditure?

1. Manchester City – €108 million

So far, and unsurprisingly, the king of the transfer window is Manchester City. The Citizens have already spent €108 million, with Erling Haaland coming for €60 million and Kalvin Phillips for €40 million. Stefan Ortega has also arrived for free. At the same time, it has to be said that the Premier League champion is in the green numbers thanks to the sales.

Indeed, Raheem Sterling (56 million euros), Gabriel Jesus (52 million euros), Pedro Porro (8.5 million euros) and Ko Itakura (5 million euros) left Guardiola’s team. Citizens thus collected 121 million euros and are in the plus 13 million euros.

2. Leeds – 105 million euros

In second place, surprisingly for many, is Leeds United. The 17th Premier League side bought Brenden Aaronson from Salzburg (€32m), Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord (€25m), Tyler Adams from Leipzig (€17m), Rasmus Kristensen from Salzburg (€13m), Marco Roca from Bayern (€12m) and Darko Gyabi from Manchester City (€5m).

However, even Leeds have a positive record. This is mainly thanks to the sale of Raphinha, for whom Barcelona paid €58m. Furthermore, Leeds filled their budget with the sale of Kalvin Philips to Manchester City for €40m. The North of England team is thus in the plus 1 million euros.

3. Barcelona – 103 million euros

The third cell is not from the Premier League, but from La Liga. And also quite surprising, because Barcelona is in a huge financial crisis, yet it is buying like crazy. It has already brought in Raphinha for €58 million, Robert Lewandowski for €45 million and Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen for free, but it had to add to their wages all the more.

Unlike the first two teams, however, Barcelona is in a huge deficit. So far, it has only sold Coutinho for 20 million euros and Rey Manaj for 2 million euros. 3 million euros was collected for the guest appearance of Francisco Trincão at Sporting. So, in total, it has spent 103 million euros and collected only 25 million euros, finding itself in a minus of 78 million euros.

4. Arsenal – 97 million euros

In fourth place is Arsenal, which is also in a big minus, but the Gunners are in a great situation financially and, on the contrary, they need to strengthen their squad properly. Thus, the North London club brought Gabriel Jesus for 52 million euros, Fábio Vieira for 35 million euros, Matt Turner for 6 million euros and Marquinhos for 3 million euros.

Only Mattéo Guendouzi for €11 million and Konstantinos Mavropanos for €3 million left the Emirates Stadium. Alexandre Lacazete also left for free, which at least eased the club’s wage bill. All in all, that makes expenses of 97 million euros and income of 14.2 million euros, a minus of 82.8 million euros.

5. Chelsea – 94 million euros

The top five highest spending clubs are again rounded off by the Premier League club, which can be found four times on the list. Chelsea brought in Raheem Sterling for €56 million and Kalidou Koulibaly for €38 million. Nathan Aké and Presnel Kimpembe are still expected to arrive.

The only one the Blues cashed in for is Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea will get 8 million euros for his guest appearance at Inter. Rüdiger and Christensen left the club for free. So the Blues spent 94 million euros and cashed in 8, which puts it in the biggest minus in all spending clubs in Europe – 86 million euros.
