Wednesday’s Premier League schedule kicked off with a match between Southampton and Leicester. Although the home side went ahead twice, the Foxes equalised each time and the match ended 2-2.
Chelsea faced Watford in the city derby, but the match had to be abandoned in the first half due to the treatment of a spectator in the stands. The table leaders were put in front by Mount in the 29th minute, only for Watford to equalise in the 43rd minute through Dennis.
The home side put in a very decent performance, even outshooting Chelsea, but it didn’t result in a goal. In the 73rd minute Hakim Ziyech sent Chelsea into the lead, Watford couldn’t equalise and Chelsea took an important 2-1 win.
West Ham took on Brighton and in the fifth minute Tomas Soucek sent them into the lead. However, Neal Maupay equalised in the last minute to make it 1-1 and the Hammers lost two more points.
The match between Wolwes and Burnley didn’t bring much interesting, both teams parted with a point after a goalless draw.
Steven Gerrard made a great start to his new engagement at Aston Villa and scored two wins. But his streak was stopped by the defending champions as Manchester City were put in front by Portugal’s Rubén Dias and Bernardo Silva, with Watkins only equalizing for the home side at 1:2.
Probably the most interesting match was the clash between two irreconcilable rivals Everton and Liverpool. Merseyside was dominated by the visiting Liverpool, who are playing in perfect form.
Henderson opened the scoring in the 9th minute, the Reds captain sent Salah on a breakaway ten minutes later, who made no mistake and increased the score to 2:0. In the 38th minute, Gray reduced the lead to 1:2, only for Salah to restore Liverpool’s two-goal lead in the 64th minute.
In the 79th minute, Jota added an insurance goal and Liverpool demolished their opponents 4:1 in the derby. This could be the kiss of death for Everton coach Rafa Benítez, under whom the chair was already rocking hard.
