Manchester City are preparing to defend both the Premier League and the Champions League. But Pep Guardiola will miss captain and goal scorer Ilkay Gündogan in the centre of midfield, so he is hunting for a replacement at West Ham.
Ilkay Gündogan has been an unassuming but very important player for Manchester City. That’s why he was later given the captain’s armband. He scored a lot of important goals and had a big impact on the team.
But after achieving the goal that the Citizens had been working towards for so long, he decided it was time to taste a new adventure. So he left for Barcelona for free at the end of his contract.
Manchester City were not lazy and immediately brought in Mateo Kovacic as a replacement from Chelsea. But the Croatian midfielder is a slightly different type of player, a great dribbler, excellent in midfield, but he doesn’t get much into the back of the net and his productivity can’t be compared to Gündogan.
In the first competitive game of the season, the Comunnity Shield match against Arsenal, it was clear to see how much the Citizens depend on Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian only started on the bench and without him the Citizens were a bit toothless, creating virtually no chances. De Bruyne came on in the 64th minute and immediately the Premier League winners started to become much more dangerous. De Bruyne created two great chances and crossed for Palmer to score.
Guardiola seems to have realised that depending on one player, who is also 32 years old, is not ideal, so he decided to explore the market further.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester City are interested in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta. He hasn’t sent any official offer yet, and West Ham don’t want to sell one of their key players.
But Manchester City can be persuasive if they are interested in someone. moreover, the 25-year-old Brazilian would probably not resist a transfer to a better address.
