Gary Neville has hit back at Chelsea

Gary Neville is a Manchester United legend. But beyond that, he has already established himself as an expert. That he isn’t critical certainly can’t be said, but that’s what has made him so well respected. However, sometimes he goes a little overboard, or rather, sometimes some people may find his statements annoying.

This happened after the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea, where the Reds managed to beat the Blues. “Klopp’s children against a billion pound job,” the former great defender commented in hyperbole on the result of the match.

Above all, he was reacting to the large sums Chelsea have spent on transfers in recent years. The London outfit may be buying big and expensive, but it is not getting results.

Chelsea’s season

The pre-season arrival of renowned manager Mauricio Pochettino was supposed to guarantee an improvement in the quality of play shown. However, since the beginning of the season we can observe the same situation as at the end of last season. A frequent rotation of the line-up, with which the players cannot cope at all. It’s as if they are not able to get used to the change of teammates around them.

The draw with Liverpool at the start of the season didn’t look bad yet. However, in the very second round, the team around veteran Thiago Silva lost the London derby at West Ham’s ground (3: 1), even finishing with 10 men. The subsequent win against Luton was more of an obligation than any hope for the fans.

Chelsea alternates better performances with worse ones, and every week fans wait to see what performance their favourites will come up with. Satisfaction within this season can only reign in the case of the Carabao Cup, when the team reached the final.

In certain parts of the game, Chelsea outplayed their opponents, which can be a hope for the next part of the season.

The London team has quite a favourable closest draw in the Premier League. A duel with Brentford, a tough game with Newcastle and then games with Burnley or Sheffield. If Chelsea manage to get double-digit points and their neighbours in the table lose, it could be a battle for the cup places.

Malouda takes on Neville

The former France winger has played 249 games in blue colours across all competitions. He has scored 45 goals and set up 41. He spent 6 years at the club, and still managed to play against Neville in the final seasons of his career.

So it’s no wonder he didn’t like his former rival’s comments too much. “When you lose, you have to be able to take criticism. I don’t think it was a harsh remark from Neville, but I think maybe he should be tougher on his own team (Manchester United – ed.),” Florent Malouda let slip.
