Mainz vs. Mönchengladbach: Preview and betting tips
Mainz will welcome Mönchengladbach in Friday’s Bundesliga preliminary round match. Both teams can make it into the Top 4 if they win, who will take advantage and jump into the top teams in Germany?
Mainz are doing well beyond expectations so far, having improved a lot with wins in the last two rounds. Fifth place is a bit deceiving though, the small side is only two points ahead of tenth-placed Mönchengladbach.
Mönchengladbach are not playing cups at all this year after reaching the Champions League eighth-finals last year. However, from tenth place they are only three points behind fourth-placed Leverkusen, so a win on Friday could mean a big jump up the table.
Young striker Jonathan Burkardt is the mainstay of the home side, he has already had a hand in ten goals (8+2) in all competitions. Karim Onisiwot has assisted six goals and scored two himself.
The visitors’ top scorer is Jonas Hofmann, the skilful central midfielder has also assisted once in addition to his four goals. Meanwhile, Breel Embol’s performance remains behind expectations, the skilful Swiss striker scored only three goals.
Mainz rely on a goal scoring attack, scoring nine goals in their last three games.
The Colts, on the other hand, score little, their goalkeeper has only fished the ball out of the net six times in the last eight games.
Considering Mönchengladbach’s well-functioning defence, I think the visitors will not lose.
