Maguire to Chelsea? Blues want to offer United a shock swap
This would be a huge coup in the football world. Harry Maguire, Manchester United’s captain and probably the most criticised and ridiculed defender on the planet could move. Chelsea have begun to enquire about his services.
This would be a huge coup in the football world. Harry Maguire, Manchester United’s captain and probably the most criticised and ridiculed defender on the planet could be moving. Chelsea have begun to enquire about his services.
When Maguire arrived at Manchester United, he was immediately weighed down by a huge wave of expectation. Not to mention, the Red Devils paid 80 million euros for him, making him the most expensive defender in football history.
Not long after, he became the club captain and he really didn’t have a downright bad start. But after that, the mistakes started piling up, almost childish mistakes that cost United points and Maguire became the most ridiculed player on the planet.
But even though the new coach has five-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane and a new signing of his liking in Lisandro Martínez, Maguire is still in the starting line-up. Whether it’s because he wears an armband or because you don’t want to leave an $80 million reinforcement sitting on the bench.
However, United fans would love to get rid of him as soon as possible and that wish may be granted. And from a rather unexpected entity.
According to the UK’s Daily Mail, Chelsea have begun to probe the situation surrounding Maguire. The Blues are in dire need of another stopper after the departure of Rüdiger and Christensen, so far only Kalidou Koulibaly has arrived.
The transfer of the long-supervised Jules Koundé did not work out, with the Frenchman eventually heading to Barcelona. Manchester City’s Nathan Aké won’t be arriving at Stamford Bridge either, leaving the Blues to look elsewhere and set their sights on the England international.
Chelsea would reportedly like to make a swap with Manchester United, sending American Christian Pulisic to Old Trafford for Maguire.
Thomas Tuchel has not been happy with his performances in the long term and would not defend his departure. However, Pulisic is still only 24 years old and could be a very interesting deal for United as they need reinforcements in attack like salt.
