Maguire on loan to Aston Villa? But outright sale remains a priority for Manchester United

The England national team stopper is a highly rated stopper, despite all sorts of derision, who definitely has something to offer to many clubs. However, at Old Trafford, he has found himself in a grinder from which there seems to be no escape. And for himself, he’s better off restarting his career elsewhere.

Especially as it’s no secret that Gareth Southgate has made it clear that he will take the players who will play at the Euros next year. And Maguire will find that very difficult at the Red Devils.

That is also why it is widely expected that the 30-year-old stopper, who played 16 games (just 762 minutes) in the last league season, will go elsewhere. Newcastle were the first to make an approach, but Manchester United thankfully turned it down when it was only supposed to be a loan deal.

Indeed, the club preferred an outright sale, while a burgeoning rival wanted Maguire only on loan. Aston Villa, who already have a significantly higher chance, have also shown interest. The Red Devils management has no desire to let the player go to the competition for the top spot.

But this should be taken lightly in quotation marks, as Aston Villa finished in seventh place, 10 points behind fourth-placed Newcastle. The arrival of Unaie Emery has been a success and it will certainly be interesting to watch this team in the next edition.

However, not only these two clubs have shown interest in Maguire, but also Tottenham. It is the latter and Newcastle who could join the battle to get the Red Devils captain. However, they will only succeed if it is an outright sale, which is reportedly the club’s preference.

Of course, another club could also enter the process. However, it can be assumed that the player himself will have a very important say, whose priority seems to be to start at the Euro next year, where he would like to finally win a big trophy after several “failures”.

The only one Maguire has won in his career is the League Cup this year. He arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2019 from Leicester for 87 million euros.
