MacKinnon scored the first four goals in Colorado history
In the game Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators (6:4). Nathan MacKinnon scored five points on four goals and one assist, contributing to almost all of the Avalanche’s goals. He scored the fifth hat trick of his career.
He extended his point streak to 17 games in a row. He has catapulted into the second place in NHL scoring behind the long-time leader Nikita Kucherov, who is now four points behind the Russian with 53 points on 18 goals and 35 assists.
His point streak of 17 consecutive games in which he has scored at least one point equals the longest point streak from earlier this season, held by Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. During that streak, MacKinnon scored 33 points.
MacKinnon also set a club record. No one in Quebec Nordiques/ColoradoAvalanche history has scored more than three goals in a single game. And that was with such aces as Joes Sakic, Peter Stastny and Czech goal scorer Milan Hejduk.
The Colorado forward has now surpassed 300 goals scored in the regular season. Only four players in the history of the franchise have ever done that. Milan Hejduk (375 goals), Peter Stastny (380), Michel Goulet (456) and Joe Sakic (625).
Ovechkin broke his scoring fast
In the Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Washington Capitals (2:3), Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin broke the longest scoring drought of his career in the 65th minute of overtime, scoring his sixth goal of the season after 15 games.
Ovechkin scored his 828th goal of the regular season. He also became the second player in history, after Wayne Gretzky, to surpass the 900-goal mark in the regular season and playoffs combined. “The Great One” even reached 1016 goals scored in total.
At the same time, it was his 135th overall winning goal in the regular season and playoffs, putting him in second place on the historical charts ahead of Brett Hull. Jaromir Jagr is in first place with 151 game-winning goals.
