Sparta will have another big game on Thursday evening when they take on Olympique Lyon. They managed to surprise the French team at home, but it was not enough to get the points. What did coach Pavel Vrba say before the second match?

Olympique Lyon left Prague with three points after the first match, but it was definitely not a piece of cake for the French team. Already in the 19th minute, Peter Bosz’s charges were down 2:0. In the end, however, they won 4: 3.

“We played the match in Prague well. But Lyon is a very good team. We gave it away to them and they managed to punish us for it in some moments. But we managed to play attractive football, that’s what we wanted. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result we wanted,” recalled Pavel Vrba of the defeat.

“We allknow that Lyon will want to show their best at home. We know who they can beat. They will be even stronger at home than in Prague. I’m curious to see how we’ll cope.”

But don’t expect any respect from Sparta. Vrba will want to take on Lyon again, even though he considers them a top team. In his opinion, the French league has gone up a lot recently.

I looked at Lyon’s roster and when I saw where they buy players from, it’s incomparable to us. We have a lot of young players who will be at this level, like Lyon, maybe in three or four years. We need games like tomorrow’s for their development.”

Vrba is aware that the next two games will be decisive as Olympique are the clear favourites in the group. Besides, he has great news for the fans. Ladislav Krejci Jr. will be able to start from the first minute.
