On Thursday evening Sparta played an important match against Brondby Copenhagen and won 2:0. In the spring, Sparta will play in the European Conference League, the third cup competition. How does coach Pavel Vrba assess the situation?
Sparta can rejoice, as they will play in Europe in the spring. They won 2:0 against Brondby, but according to Pavel Vrba the difference could have been bigger, but his charges were not as effective as they could have been.
“I think we deservedly advanced to the spring phase of European competitions. Lyon were above everyone, with Rangers they were a bit further away and deservedly finished ahead of us. Of course we wanted to continue in the Europa League, but the Conference League is also a quality competition,” Vrba assessed the performance in the Europa League.
According to the Sparta coach, the Conference League can be a good competition for his charges. He sees the promotion to it as a great success, he says that the promotion to the spring part is a success for Czech teams every time they succeed.
And how does he explain the promotion? “Sparta has a very young team that has a huge perspective. Every such promotion is very important for the club and the players. I believe that the players will use the experience they have gained in the spring phase,” Vrba said at the press conference.
The Letenske coach also had to respond to the question of how far Sparta are from the Champions League. And the answer? He said that it is important to be in the championship part, because from the second place in the league you always come across teams from Italy, Spain or France.
According to Vrba, there are two or three teams in the Conference League that are really top level. However, he did not reveal to reporters who he would like to get.
