On Saturday evening, a really scary news from the lawns of the English Premier League started to spread on the internet. Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch and was immediately taken to hospital. The club has now announced more details to the public.

The English Premier League had 5 matches on the schedule on Saturday. Newcastle played with Fulham, Manchester City surprisingly drew with Crystal Palace, Chelsea won against Sheffield and Everton won at Burnley.

Unfortunately, the fifth game was not played. At the time of the game, the score between Bournemouth and Luton was 1-1. But all of a sudden the visitors’ captain Tom Lockyer fell to the ground and it was known that it was bad.

Teammates and opposing players immediately ran to him and prevented the cameras from getting shots, while the paramedics did their best. The stadium went completely silent and Lockyer was transferred on a stretcher to an ambulance and immediately headed to the hospital.

The referee stopped the game in the 65th minute, no one wanted the match to continue. The players were shaken and feared the worst. Fortunately, that didn’t happen.

Luton issued a statement

“Our doctors have confirmed that the captain suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch but was responsive by the time he was carried off on a stretcher. He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams of both sides.

Tom was taken to hospital where we can assure supporters that his condition is stable and he is currently undergoing further investigations with his family at his bedside,” the club announced the positive news.

Lockyer also missed a game for a similar reason six months ago and therefore underwent heart surgery. However, he was cleared to play football again in June and returned to the game. Now the question is whether the twenty-nine-year-old footballer will be able to continue at a professional level.
