The highlight of the 2nd round of the Premier League was the duel between Arsenal and Chelsea. The Blues fulfilled their role as favourites and won this prestigious derby 2:0. The Blues’ new signing also made a successful debut. The Belgian cannonballer scored the opening goal of the match and was instrumental in the victory.

Fresh signing Romelu Lukaku is already in the Blues starting line-up. Arsenal, on the other hand, were missing White, who tested positive for Covid-19. The visitors were looking to build on a successful start to the season, while the home side needed to bounce back from an embarrassing defeat to Brentford.

The favourites for the match were the more active team right from the start. The Blues’ activity paid off quite early. In the 15th minute, Lukaku held the ball for a teammate, Havertz sent it to a completely exposed James, the Blues left back sent a pinpoint pass back to a completely free Lukaku and he made no mistake.

The visitors continued to be the more dominant unit and outplayed their opponents quite handily. They struck once more in the first half. And again, Lukaku was there. The Belgian striker cleverly cleared a teammate, the ball was taken by Mount who found a wide open James. The England international gave Len no chance and shot under the crossbar to make it 2-0.

After that, Arsenal stepped it up a bit, trying to do something more with the result by the end of the first half. However, apart from a few glitches and a few hints, they didn’t create anything of substance. The visitors went into the half-time break with a luxury two-goal lead.

The second half was in a similar vein. The Blues continued to hold the reins of the game. Arsenal also improved their performance. At least for part of the second half. The Gunners’ biggest and only chance came in the 60th minute. Holding had a dangerous header from a corner, but unfortunately for Arsenal, it just missed. So there was no drama.

Chelsea, on the other hand, came back to their game and threatened several more times. In the 77th minute, Lukaku had a dangerous shot, but his great header was pulled out by Leno. Late in the game, Mount had another great chance. But again, he didn’t get a shot past the brilliant Leno.

The end of the match was played at a calm pace and Lukaku and his team won 2:0. A valuable win for them, they clearly dominated this London derby. With this triumph, they move to the top of the table and, together with Liverpool, into 1st place.

Arsenal, on the other hand, continue their poor start to the season, with this loss dropping them to 19th place. So Arteta and co. definitely have a lot to make up for.
