Luís Figo is undoubtedly a great legend of world football. And rightly so, the former Portugal international has achieved many successes. Today, November 4, he celebrated his 49th birthday! Let’s recall his most beautiful actions and goals.
The Portuguese international is rightly called a legend of world football. And not just because of his collection of achievements. But we can also remind you of that in our article.
Figo has several individual achievements to his credit – he has been named the best footballer of the year six times and is also a Ballon d’Or winner (from 2000).
But as we write above, Figo was first and foremost an absolutely brilliant footballer. He gave out passes to his teammates that they often didn’t expect. In the video below, you can watch his most successful actions and goals.
He started his football career at Sporting Lisbon, or rather in their academy. He joined the senior team in July 1991. He spent four seasons there before moving to Barcelona in 1995.
And it was here that he began the biggest journey of his career. He played 248 games for the Catalan club, scoring 45 goals and assisting 56 more. Twice he won the league title in their jersey, and twice he lifted the Copa del Rey winner’s trophy above his head.
24. however, in June 2000, he moved to their biggest rival. Real Madrid wanted his services, the transfer fee at the time was 60 million euros. For the time, this was a very large sum indeed.
Figo was a similarly successful footballer at the Royal Club. Although he played three fewer games there, he still scored 56 goals and 93 assists! And as for his achievements at Real Madrid?
He became a two-time league champion and, above all, enjoyed winning the Eared Cup with the White Ballet. They dominated the Champions League with Real in the 2001/02 season. On top of that, he added an Intercontinental Cup victory and, as in his previous engagement, two Spanish Super Cup championships.
He then capped his illustrious career with Inter Milan. With the Nerazzurri, he literally ruled Italian football – Figo became 4 times league champion, 3 times Italian Super Cup winner and last but not least Coppa Italia winner.
Across all competitions, he played a total of 644 games in his career, scoring 112 goals and assisting another 178. He currently serves as an advisor to UEFA.
