Lucie Hradecká retired at the age of 37. One of the best doubles players in Czech tennis history said goodbye at the tournament in Guadalajara, where she lost to the Ukrainian-Latvian duo of Kichenokova, Ostapenko 4::6 and 1::6. What achievements has the Prague native accomplished during her nearly two-decade-long professional career?

Hradecka has won a total of 26 doubles titles on the WTA circuit. Her debut triumph came in 2006, when she formed a doubles pair with Renata Voráčová at the event in Portorož, Slovenia. Her most notable results were with another compatriot, Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková.

Together they have two Grand Slam trophies in their collection, namely from the French Open 2011 and Wimbledon 2013. Meanwhile, on the grass courts of the All England Club, they took care of one of the eleven medals won by the Czech team at the London Olympics. After the final loss to the Williams sisters, they took silver.

The year 2016 brought Lucie Hradecka another success under five rings. The Czech Republic took a total of three bronzes on the hard surface in Rio de Janeiro, one of which the now former player won together with Radek Stepanek in the mix. She and Hlaváčková finished fourth in the women’s doubles as Lucie Šafářová and Barbora Strýcová won the Czech battle for the precious metal.

In mixed doubles, Hradecka has one more big win to her credit. She competed in this division at Roland Garros 2013 with František Čermák and with this native of Valtice, she eventually enjoyed a final victory over Mladenovic of France and Nestor of Canada.

She was part of the golden era of Czech tennis in Fed Cup. She contributed to five triumphs in the prestigious women’s national team event. This happened in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Her highest ranking in the WTA doubles rankings was fourth in the 2012 season. A year earlier, she achieved her best singles ranking, which was 41st. She has never won a singles title on the most prestigious circuit, having dominated 19 ITF tournaments.

The experienced tennis player achieved her last career triumph last year at her home event, the Livesport Prague Open. Together with Maria Bouzkova, they defeated the Slovak-Serbian duo Kužmová, Stojanovićová in the deciding match after sets 7:6 and 6:4.

The duo of Lucie Hradecka, Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková, who also played the final of the Champions Tournament ten years ago, were last seen at this year’s WTA 250 tournament in Prague. After defeating the Czech pair Dețiucová, Kolodziejová, they were unable to beat Japan’s Katová and Great Britain’s Murray in the quarter-finals.
