The Chinese LPL playoffs began today with a series between EDG and Team WE. The league favourite tried to make up for a lacklustre performance in the regular season.
The Chinese playoffs, considered to be the most attractive and wildest in the entire League of Legends, played another part. The opening series of the playoffs and the first round was a duel between EDG and Team WE.
The favored EDG attempted to make amends for their reputation and considerable failure. The opponent, on the other hand, stirred up the playoff waters again after a long hiatus and certainly didn’t want to stay in the first round.
EDG with Uzi in the lineup entered the wild series decently and managed to fend off the onslaught of a tenacious opponent. In the end, the tactically tied battle offered little of the traditionally fierce storylines of the Chinese league. Still, the favorite ended up taking the first point in the series.
The second game was also more active on EDG’s side, and for a long time it looked like the favorite would walk away with the match point. However, WE repelled the pressure from the opponent and in the end the unexpected playoff participant celebrated a 1-1 draw.
The third game was the most dominant of the series. EDG gave their counterparts virtually no space and took a 2-1 lead.
The fourth game got off to a good start for WE. They managed to push the favorite to the wall and it looked like the very first playoff series of the summer split would be a five-game series. But the favorite found a way to break the opponent’s onslaught at the last moment.
EDG will now play in the second round of the playoffs after a 3-1 win. Their next opponent will be OMG, who finished fifth in the regular season and will definitely not be an easy opponent.
