LPL: Anyone’s Legend duels with FPX to give JDG hope for Worlds
The Chinese LPL had another Bo5 on the agenda, this time Anyone’s Legend and FPX faced off. The duel was also an interesting one for JD Gaming’s theoretical chances for Worlds 2024, who finished in the hands of NiP (2-3) yesterday.

- An important duel of hope for JDG
- Anyone’s Legend confirmed their role as the favourite
- In their next match they will challenge the LPL runners-up from TOP Esports
The duel between Anyone’s Legend and FPX did not have such a “weight” in terms of stars and quality. On the one hand, it was definitely interesting to watch the rise of Anyone’s Legend, who have worked their way up from the traditional tail end of the league to the wider LPL top tier. On the other, we saw FPX, who may have made it past the qualifiers to the second round of the playoffs, but they are not the team of 2019 and 2020 that were among the world’s elite.
Still, the duel took on some gravitas, at least with JDG fans. They were definitely rooting for the bunch around the renowned coach Tabe, who now as Anyone’s coach pulled Bilibili Gaming, among others, among the elite last year. FPX, if successful, would have knocked JDG out of Worlds contention for good.
But the series had a clear favorite. Anyone’s Legend, even with their participation in the elite group, had enough game practice with the best. It was experience and better game practice that became the main essence of success. Legends were quickly leading 2-0 and only in the third game of FPX were they able to find a reasonable composition. Thanks to it they at least made the series more dramatic.
But in the fourth game Anyone’s Legend chose a risky and very offensive composition without tank. FPX responded with more traditional variations, including Kindred in the jungle. Tabe’s team’s risk worked well and brought the coveted third point. Anyone’s Legend’s win kept JDG in contention for Worlds, but if the team wins the next round where they challenge TOP Esports, JDG will lose their last hope.
