Louis van Gaal should return to the Oranjes bench. He returns to lead the Dutch national team for the third time
Louis van Gaal will most likely return to the bench of the Dutch national team for the third time. According to the Telegraaf website, the coach has already agreed a contract with the national team.
Louis van Gaal will most likely return to the bench of the Dutch national team for the third time. According to the Telegraaf website, the coach has already agreed a contract with the national team. Apparently, we should only wait for an official announcement from the federation.
The Dutch “dictator” was last at the national team when he took bronze at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He beat Spain 5-1 in a memorable match. Since then, he has tried his hand at Manchester United, but that didn’t go so well.
In 2019, he even decided to end his coaching career, but due to the offer from the Oranjes, the nearly 70-year-old grandmaster should still return to the coaching craft.
His choice of assistants is also interesting. They should be Danny Blind (father of national team player Daley), Frans Hoek and Henk Fraser. The Football Association wants Henk Fraser to succeed Van Gaal as coach of the national team.
Fraser, who will combine the role of assistant with the national team and head coach at Sparta Rotterdam, is expected to become the new coach of the Oranjes after the World Cup in Qatar, which will be held in November and December 2022.
However, the selection from the land of the tulips must make it through a qualifying group with Norway, Gibraltar, Latvia, Montenegro and Turkey to even make it to the World Cup in Qatar. Turkey is currently top of the qualifying group, helped significantly by a 4-2 win over the Netherlands.
If the Netherlands had failed to qualify for the World Cup, it would have been the first time that the country had failed to qualify for two World Cups in a row. But Van Gaal will not want to let that happen.
