Wimbledon is drawn and the Czech tennis players know their opponents for the first round of the legendary Grand Slam. Check out the business cards of the Czechs in the bottom half of the line-up. What opponents await Petra Kvitova or Karolina Muchova?

Karolina Pliskova

The native of Louny has not been in great form in recent weeks. She has won only one of her last six duels. At Wimbledon, the thirty-one year old tennis player is quite good. Two years ago she even made it to the final. She lost to Barty in three sets.

This year, Pliskova will start her tournament journey against Serbian qualifier Stevanovic. The 28-year-old Serbian is waiting for her first Wimbledon. Pliskova’s opponent is the highest ranked player in the rankings at 162nd and let’s hope that she will not threaten the Czech tennis player in the first round.

Petra Kvitova

The two-time Wimbledon champion proved a week ago in Berlin that she is still very good on grass. She triumphed in the German capital without losing a set and became one of the most watched players.

Kvitova’s opponent in the opening match will be the Italian Paolini. She is definitely not a fan of grass courts and has won only six matches in her career on the fastest surface. Just for comparison, Kvitova has 72 wins on grass in her career.

Both Czechs are seeded players, Kvitova is the tournament’s No. 9 and Pliskova is No. 18. If they successfully manage two matches, they will play against each other in the third round.

Barbora Krejcikova

The second highest seeded Czech has the number ten next to her name. Barbora Krejcikova is another of the group of Czech Wimbledon doubles winners. Last year she enjoyed this success alongside Katerina Siniakova.

However, the native of Brno has also improved her singles results in recent years and has topped the WTA rankings for the last three years. Her best finish at Wimbledon is the fourth round in 2021.

A week ago, while Kvitova was playing the final in Berlin, Krejcikova was fighting for her triumph in Birmingham. Although she failed against Latvia’s Ostapenko, she still achieved her best result on grass courts.

Krejcikova will open this year’s Wimbledon against home player Heather Watson. She is playing on a wild card and is looking forward to her 13th Wimbledon.

Although she is ranked 149th in the rankings, she is no outsider at the London Grand Slam. Last year she reached the fourth round here, further than Krejcikova.

Muchova and Noskova

The finalist of this year’s French Open will play the German Jule Niemeier in the clash of former Wimbledon quarter-finalists. Muchova played her quarterfinals in 2019 and 2021. The German’s success is younger.

Twenty-three-year-old German Niemeier surprised with a successful Wimbledon journey last year, reaching the top eight in her debut appearance at the All England Club. This year she is having a worse season, losing two-thirds of her matches. Let’s hope she doesn’t recall her last year’s form in her match against Karolina Muchova.

The winner of the match between Much and Niemeier will face the winner of the duel between Linda Noskova and Hungarian Galfi. Noskova will be the favourite in her first match at Wimbledon, even though she has won only one match on grass in her career so far.

Let’s hope the Czechs do as well as possible in both the bottom and top half of the rankings. Wimbledon starts on July 3.
