Lorient rose in February, taking seven points from four rounds to climb out of the relegation zone. However, they are only two points clear of last-placed Bordeaux in 16th place, as Ligue 1 is extremely even this season.
Lyon, on the other hand, has won only once in the last four rounds and has dropped to tenth place. Nevertheless, they are within striking distance of the cups, just five points behind fourth-placed Rennes. Incredibly, one win in the 27th round can move a team in France up five places.
Thomas Monconduit is the mainstay of the home side, the experienced central midfielder has scored three goals and assisted two in the league. Twenty-three-year-old winger and French youth international Armand Laurienté has netted four times and assisted once.
Sparta’s players also saw the qualities of Lucas Paqueta in the autumn, the Brazilian midfielder now has seven league goals and three assists. Striker Karl Toko Ekambi boasts six goals in Ligue 1, with six more in the cups.
If there is one thing that Lorient are currently relying on, it is their defence. In the last four rounds they have conceded only once, scoring three goals themselves.
This does not play into Lyon’s hands, who on the other hand have scored only three times in the last four rounds and have come up empty twice.
Despite Lyon’s poor form, I think they will manage to win. It has won the last three rounds at home, before that it drew with PSG.
