Another tournament for European fans, another tournament in London. The UFC was in the British capital on Saturday for the second time this year. And judging by the names, we expected to see an interesting gala. What’s more, the atmosphere in London was excellent last time and the vast majority of the fights ended early.
There was a lot of talk about what they were putting in the water in London that there was such “madness”. The head of the organization, Dana White, gave out a record number of bonuses for the performance of the evening. And it was no wonder. But it wasn’t quite the same show at the next gala.
Prelims
Already the prelims card was full of fights on points. With one exception. There were even comments on social media that fortunately Oktagon or KSW from Poland also had tournaments at the same time.
Most Czechoslovak fans were interested in the main match of this card. That was taken care of by Ludovít Klein, who was the underdog against Mason Jones. However, he managed to defeat him and scored a valuable scalp.
Of the eight bouts, only one ended prematurely. Jonathan Pearce defeated Mawan Amirkhani.
The main card
Fans were hoping that the main card would save the fight, and it did to some extent. Indeed, it shouldn’t have. It featured several showmen. Volkan Oezdemir outshot Paul Craig on significant strikes right at the start. But he won on points.
Then Molly McCan flashed another elbow from the turnbuckle, this time not winning the fight outright, but at least getting it on her side. After that, it was just a stunt that was enough to win. She beat Hannah Goldy.
The European fans were looking forward to the return of Alexander Gustafsson, who took the cage after two years. But unfortunately he lost, and lost very quickly. The match lasted just over a minute, so Nikita Krylov won.
Afterwards Paddy Pimblett went into action, an interesting prospect who stirred up the crowd in the O2 arena before, during and after the game. He won on a rear-naked choke in the second round.
The next bout featured Jack Hermansson, a former Karlos Vemola conqueror, who defeated Chris Curtis on points. The main event catered for heavyweights Curtis Blaydes and Tom Aspinall. However, it didn’t last long. After 15 seconds it was over due to an injury to Aspinall. Blaydes won by TKO.
