Liverpool will face West Ham in the EFL Cup semi-finals. But Klopp continues to be troubled by injuries

Liverpool are doing exceedingly well so far as they are one point behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League. West Ham would like to be even higher, but looking at the table, their current 8th place is definitely an achievement. Now the two teams will clash in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

At the weekend, Liverpool fell to Manchester United, who they played to a goalless draw at home. In the event of a win, they could have taken 40 points and finished top of the Premier League. Last week, Jurgen Klopp’s charges also played their last Europa League group game. However, the German coach sent a B-team to play against Royale Union SG.

The Reds are thus already two games without a win, but the worse news is the increasing number of players. The following players are all expected to be out – Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Alexis Mac Allister, Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson and Ryan Gravenberch.

On December 23rd, Liverpool will face a very prestigious duel with Arsenal for the top of the table. It will therefore be interesting to see what importance Klopp gives to Wednesday’s game against West Ham.

“We start the season with the desire to create a new special team that can beat the best clubs in the world. Especially with this team, because it is new, you want to play the final. Reaching the semi-finals in January would only help the boys grow,” assistant coach Pep Lijnders said at a press conference.

West Ham

West Ham are currently eighth in the Premier League table. The road to the European cups, specifically the Europa League group stage, will definitely be easier through the EFL Cup. In the eighth round, the Hammers put a stop to the aforementioned Arsenal. Now they have another big opponent.

However, the match against the Reds comes in very handy for Moyes and co. due to the aforementioned time pressure and injury problems. Especially since if West Ham can beat Liverpool, they will face Fulham in the final.

The other semi-final pairing is Middlesbrough and Chelsea, who went through on penalties against Newcastle. The semi-finals are scheduled for January 8 at 20:45 and January 22 also at 20:45.
