Preview
Although it may not seem so to many, I would not be afraid to call Liverpool a club in very good form at present, and one which is, moreover, on the upward trend. We certainly have to take out of that the duel with Real Madrid, who are simply a world away from the Reds at the moment.
Otherwise, however, Jurgen Klopp’s charges have not scored once in their last 4 games, losing only to Crystal Palace. Otherwise they have beaten Everton, Newcastle and most recently Wolves.
They are currently 6th in the Premier League, with 4th. Tottenham are 6 points behind and they have a game to spare. Personally, I wouldn’t write the Reds off the top 4 just yet, quite the opposite.
It is Manchester United who are riding a wave of euphoria, having first knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League and beating Newcastle in the EFL Cup final. So, after the defeat to Arsenal at the end of January, the Red Devils are celebrating victory after victory except for two draws.
In addition, the fans will already welcome back Casemiro, who stood out due to a red card from the game against Crystal Palace. While Jadon Sancho, who opened the scoring in the first mutual duel this season, will most likely not be involved in this match yet.
Prediction
The last time Erik ten Hag and Jürgen Klopp faced each other was at the end of August and the home side eventually got the better of the duel, in which the Reds players kept the ball on their hoof 70% of the time, winning 2-1.
But now the situation is different and Manchester United have come a long way since then. But so has Liverpool, which is going through a crisis this season and this match will show, among other things, whether the last few games were not just a momentary euphoria.
Goals are widely expected to fall. This is not surprising when looking at the past mutual matches. Over 2.5 at odds of 1.67 is a very good choice.
The home team Liverpool will be the favourite, but the majority of experts believe either a draw or the away team. Of course, it is not often that the Red Devils win at Anfield and the odds of 2.82 correspond to that.
