Liverpool play their last home league game against Leicester. They need to win it in order to get a little closer to the Top 4 again.
Liverpool have returned to the TOP 6 with three wins in a row, but they are far from satisfied. They are five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with a game to spare from sixth place. In the Champions League, defending champions Real Madrid await as their first play-off opponent.
Leicester also started winning before the December break, but fell 0-3 at home to Newcastle on Boxing Day. They are 13th in the league table, but only four points clear of the relegation zone.
Liverpool’s key figures
The home side rely on goals from Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian winger has netted 16 goals and assisted six times. Striker Darwin Nunez has scored nine times and assisted on four goals and is praised for his combativeness, but he could easily have scored twice as many goals given the number of chances.
Leicester’s key figures
James Maddison is likely to be missing for the away side, so the responsibility will be on midfielder Youri Tielemans, the author of four goals and one assist. Winger Harvey Barnes scored six times and assisted once.
Liverpool’s offense finally got going in November, scoring over 2.6 times in the last five games. This has been due to the improved form of Mohamed Salah as well as outside backs Trent Alexander Arnold and Andrew Robertson.
Moreover, Leicester are struggling in defence, having conceded 28 goals already, and are looking for stability and a long-term stopper. Only Southampton, Bournemouth and Nottingham are worse, but those are not teams the Foxes want to be compared to.
Given Liverpool’s shooting form, Leicester’s underperforming defensive line and the strength of Anfield, which should not be underestimated, I think the home side will win by at least two goals.
