Liverpool and Everton will play the 24th round of the Premier League on Monday. Anfield will see a city derby between teams that are extremely unhappy with their season so far. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Liverpool are in a giant crisis, having won only one of their last seven games and their hopes of a Top 4 finish guaranteeing the Champions League are diminishing week by week. Currently, they are already 12 points behind the 10th place, with Brighton, Fulham and Brentford ahead of them.
Everton reached for a change of coach before the last round and the bet on Sean Dyche paid off. The penultimate Toffees beat first-placed Arsenal, outperformed them in performance and are now just one point behind for salvation. They are in 17th position.
Liverpool’s key figures
They cannot boast of their current form, yet Mohamed Salah is one of the most productive players of the year with 17 goals and seven assists. With Liverpool’s current misery, it is at least worth mentioning the decent performances of youngster Harvey Elliott (5+1).
Everton’s key figures
On the away side, midfield reinforcement Amadou Onana dominates the midfield, with the Belgian defensive midfielder not conceding a single goal, plus one goal and an assist. Nigerian winger Alex Iwobi scored one goal and assisted seven.
Liverpool’s defence is not working in the first place. Virgil van Dijk has recovered, but it’s not certain if he can handle Monday from the first minute. In any case, the Reds have scored more than once in five of their last seven games, and have received 28 league goals overall.
Everton, however, are the worst attacking team, which will play into Liverpool’s hands. Southampton (18) are also the last team to score more than 16 goals against the Toffees. They have scored just seven goals in their last eleven games.
Considering Everton’s proverbial buildup, which is typical after a change of coach, and the poor form of the Reds’ defense, I expect the visitors to pull out, show similar commitment to a week ago and not lose.
