Liverpool needed to win the game at home to Leicester badly as it would bring them closer to the leaders Manchester City.
However, after an unconvincing performance and a lot of missed chances, Klopp’s squad returned to Liverpool with nothing.
The game was decided in Leicester’s favour by substitute Ademola Lookman, who prompted a good run from the superbly-playing Dewsbury – Hall to cross. In a good position, the quick-footed Lookman made no mistake.
Liverpool lost in December for the first time since 2016 when they fell short to Bournemouth. The manager of the visiting team, Jürgen Klopp, was understandably not happy after the defeat.
“Often the guys give me the opportunity to say ‘wow’ great game. Today it’s ‘wow’, but in a completely different sense. Itdidn’t look good,” said a frustrated Liverpool manager after the game
Moreover, the Merseyside team will soon lose some of its mainstays to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Naby Keita, Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah are expected to be lost.
The Egyptian winger has already been involved in 24 goals in the Premier League this season, nearly half of all Liverpool’s goals.
But he didn’t shine against Leicester either, and he didn’t beat goalkeeper Schmeichel on the penalty spot. He hit only the crossbar of the open goal.
Liverpool play their next game at home against Chelsea. The game for 6 points will probably be one of the last chances for the Reds to reverse the title fight.
