Thanks to their qualification for the European Championships, the Lionesses can look forward to the group stage draw, which is scheduled for today at 6 pm. The draw ceremony will take place in Bucharest.
The Czech team will be in the third basket and only 16 teams will participate in the whole championship. The Euros will be held from 21 June to 8 July. Georgia and Romania will host the tournament.
What kind of opponents would you like to play against? Germany, Romania and Norway. “Apart from the first basket, where of course there is no easy opponent, this group might be one of the most feasible for us to fulfill our next goal – that is to advance from the group to the knockout stage of the European Championship,“ said in an interview with the national team’s website.
It was captain Filip Kaloch who picked completely different opponents, wishing for Spain, the Netherlands and Ukraine. “Spain and the Netherlands are opponents that we haven’t had the chance to face yet, so it could be interesting just for the European Championship, although of course they would be very difficult matches. We would like to give back to Ukraine for beating Slovakia in the barrage,” explained Kaloc.
Adam Gabriel’s wish is Germany, Italy and Ukraine. “I would like to play against Germany because I started football there when I was a kid and I know the environment there. Italy is a matter of heart for me, Ukraine knocked out Slovakia in the barrage and we could try for some kind of rematch,“ added.
Jan Žambůrek has picked France, the Netherlands and Norway. “France and the Netherlands are the absolute top, they have great talent from top European clubs, which would be a great challenge for us. Norway has risen a lot in the youth categories in recent years and a comparison with them could be interesting,“ concluded the Slavia alumnus.
