PSG’s Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has revealed his favourite to win the Ballon d’Or in an interview. The award for the best footballer on the planet, according to him, would go to Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema.
Karim Benzema has been performing exceedingly well this season. His productivity has helped Real Madrid to win their 35th Spanish title. However, he has been most visible in the Champions League, where he has dominated among the strikers and terrified all opponents with his cold-bloodedness.
Benzema’s 15 goals, which sent home giants such as Manchester City, PSG and Chelsea, led the White Ballet to a record 14th triumph in the millionaire club competition and he was voted the best player of last season.
Many experts and casual football fans believe that the Ballon d’Or for the best player on the planet this year should go to the thirty-four-year-old French marksman with Algerian roots.
Recently, Argentine Lionel Messi, who was Karim’s long-time rival during his time at Barcelona, also weighed in on the subject.
He now plays for PSG, who have also felt Benzema’s qualities this season. In an interview with TyC Sports, Messi mentioned that he has no doubts about the Ballon d’Or winner.
“I think there is no doubt that Benzema should win the Ballon d’Or. It’s quite clear that he had a spectacular year, which he capped off by lifting the trophy for the Champions League winner. From the eight-final to the very end, he was a vital player for the team,” said the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
