Linda Fruhwirth is undoubtedly one of the biggest hopes on the WTA circuit. Despite the fact that she is only seventeen years old, she has already managed to break into the top 100 players. All indications are that a great career awaits this player.
Linda Fruhvirt finished the 2021 calendar year ranked 279th in the WTA rankings. But she has made incredible progress since then. The proof can be seen in her debut Grand Slam appearance at this year’s US Open. On the American concrete, she finished in the second round at the racquet of Garbine Muguruza.
This probably gave her the confidence she needed, as she claimed her first WTA 250 trophy at the very next event. This is her second title this year, having captured the ITF tournament played in Cancun, Mexico in February.
But back to the biggest trophy of her very short career so far. She took out Liang at the tournament in Chennai, India, before scalping Peterson, Grachev and Podoroskaia.
In the final, she faced Magda Linette of Poland. The 30-year-old tennis player was already leading 4:1 in the deciding set and even had a break point opportunity at 5:1. But she couldn’t convert it and lost the third set 4:6.
With this success, Linda Fruhvirt moved up to 74th place in the WTA rankings with 761 points. “She has the potential to become world number one. She goes step by step, goal by goal,” said Patrick Mouratoglou, Simona Halep’s current coach.
“She has one huge advantage – extraordinary mental strength. Plus she is extremely competitive, she is a huge fighter. The same goes for Brenda. They remind me of the Williams sisters,” the French coach added.
